UsportsHub Projection

Allen Crabbe has quietly developed into one of the better shooting guard prospects in the 2013 NBA draft.  Standing 6’6” and possessing a near 7’0” wing span, Crabbe fits the physical profile of a prototypical two guard.   He moves well without the ball and is very effective running off screens and squaring for the shot.  His outstanding length allows him to get his shot off over virtually any defender and he also has a very quick release. With legit NBA three-point range, Crabbe is more of a shooter than a slasher, though he can put the ball on the floor and go right.  He possesses a useful step-back going left.

The main area of concern for Crabbe is his need to expand his ball handling capabilities.  He excels using screens, but cannot create much off-the-dribble for himself or others.  Improving his ball handling and improving his mid-range game will be important on the next level.  With his outstanding length, Crabbe has shown some ability to post up, yet this part of his game still needs to be refined.  He will also need to improve his strength and develop his on ball defense to one day become a starting NBA two guard.

The shooting guard position is extremely crowded in this year’s draft, but  Crabbe’ s ability to shoot the basketball and stretch the floor will keep him on the bubble of the first round.  His quick release and ability to run off screens is as good as anyone in the 2013 NBA Draft.  If he continues to improve as a ball handler, he could have a very long career.  Shooters are always welcome in the NBA and Crabbe fits this need.  There is a place for him in the league and, despite where he may be selected; he could have one of the longer NBA careers of all of the two guards in this year’s class.
